In 1961 The City of London sold the 1831 bridge to Robert McCulloch, chairman of McCulloch oil, who wanted to attract tourists to his new resort at Lake Havasu. It's a little piece of England in the desert. Or something.

Tucked away behind a bustling Calcutta street is this cemetary, containing the graves of hundreds of British colonists from the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Many died very young, from malaria and waterborne diseases. The grief evident in many of the inscriptions is palpable.
